What is the DAANCE exam?

The Dental Anesthesia Assistant National Certification Examination (DAANCE) is a 100-question standardized test administered by the AAOMS to certify dental assistants in monitoring patients receiving deep sedation and general anesthesia. It covers 13 domains including pharmacology, airway management, ECG interpretation, and anesthesia emergencies.

Is DAANCE Prep content aligned with the official study guide?

Yes. All questions, flashcards, and AI tutor content are grounded in the 2025 AAOMS DAANCE Study Guide across all 13 exam domains. We continuously update our content as guidelines evolve.

Does DAANCE Prep guarantee that I will pass?

No. Exam outcomes depend on many factors, and use of DAANCE Prep does not guarantee a passing score or certification. DAANCE Prep provides independent practice tools to support your preparation.

What are the 13 DAANCE exam domains?

The 13 domains are: Pharmacology, Airway Management, Anesthesia Emergencies, ECG Interpretation, Patient Evaluation, Monitoring, Sedation Techniques, Local Anesthetics, Reversal Agents, Oxygen Delivery, Physiology, Anatomy, and Anesthesia Equipment.

How many questions are on the DAANCE exam?

The DAANCE consists of 115 questions (100 scored plus 15 unscored pre-test questions) with a 2-hour time limit.

What is a passing score on the DAANCE?

AAOMS uses a scaled scoring system. The generally accepted passing threshold is approximately 75%, though psychometric scaling may adjust the cut score slightly based on question difficulty.

How much does the DAANCE exam cost?

As of 2025, the DAANCE exam fee is $405 for assistants sponsored by an AAOMS member or $605 for those sponsored by other eligible dental professionals, paid directly to AAOMS when registering. This is separate from your DAANCE Prep subscription.

How long is DAANCE certification valid?

DAANCE certification is valid for 4 years. Recertification requires completing continuing education requirements and passing a renewal examination.

Where is the DAANCE exam administered?

The DAANCE is administered at Prometric testing centers nationwide. You schedule your exam through the AAOMS website after registering and paying the exam fee.

How long does it take to be ready for the DAANCE?

Most students who study 30–60 minutes daily feel confident within 4–8 weeks. DAANCE Prep's readiness analytics track your progress in real time with a pass probability score so you know exactly when you're ready.

How is DAANCE Prep different from just reading the study guide?

The official study guide tells you what to know — DAANCE Prep teaches you to apply it under exam pressure. Our AI tutor explains the 'why' behind every answer, spaced repetition ensures long-term retention, and full mock exams replicate the actual test experience.

What is spaced repetition and why does it matter for the DAANCE?

Spaced repetition is a scientifically proven technique where you review material at increasing intervals just before you'd forget it. Our SM-2 algorithm schedules each flashcard individually — so you spend less time on things you know and more on things you don't.

Does DAANCE Prep cover ECG interpretation?

Yes. The ECG Training module presents real cardiac rhythm strips and asks you to identify them under time pressure — just like the exam. You'll learn sinus rhythms, atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, heart blocks, and more.

Does DAANCE Prep cover anesthesia emergencies?

Yes. The Emergency Decision Trees module covers laryngospasm, bronchospasm, malignant hyperthermia, anaphylaxis, local anesthetic systemic toxicity (LAST), vasovagal syncope, and cardiac arrest — each with step-by-step management and drug dosing.

What is the AI tutor?

The AI tutor answers any DAANCE-related question with clinically accurate, board-level explanations. Ask it about pharmacology, emergency protocols, ECG rhythms, or any concept you're struggling with — it explains the 'why' behind every answer.

Do I need the DAANCE if I already have CDA certification?

Yes. The CDA from DANB covers general dental assisting. The DAANCE is specifically for anesthesia monitoring and is required in many oral surgery practices regardless of other certifications.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. Every new account gets a 3-day free trial with no credit card required. You get 50 practice questions, a 25-question sample mock exam, basic flashcards, and 5 AI tutor questions per day.

Can I cancel my DAANCE Prep subscription?

Absolutely. Monthly subscriptions cancel with one click — no questions asked. The Annual plan is a single yearly payment with no recurring charges and saves 58% versus monthly.

Is DAANCE Prep affiliated with AAOMS?

No. DAANCE Prep is an independent study platform and is not affiliated with or endorsed by AAOMS. Our content is aligned with the 2025 AAOMS DAANCE Study Guide but we are a separate commercial product.

Can I use DAANCE Prep on my phone?

Yes. DAANCE Prep is fully mobile-responsive and works on any device — phone, tablet, or desktop. Many students study during lunch breaks or between patients.

Who reviews the DAANCE Prep content?

Content is created by the DAANCE Prep editorial team and aligned with the AAOMS DAANCE Study Guide. Clinically sensitive items are flagged for review. DAANCE Prep is not medically reviewed by licensed clinicians unless specifically noted on the content.
